AZU FAQs

Q: How do I join the AZU Volleyball Club?
A: Tryouts are coming soon! Visit the
Try-outs page for more information.

Q: How long is the club volleyball season?
A: Practices start as soon as try-outs are finished and you have been selected for an AZU team. You can visit the AZ Region website to see the AZ Region Tournament Schedule for your age group. AZU players practice until all the team tournament commitments have been fulfilled. You should note when looking at the AZ Region Tournament Schedule what days and dates are used. Most are Saturdays, and take place anywhere in Phoenix, Tucson, and/or Flagstaff.

Q: How do I know if my daughter’s team will compete in the Open, Championship, or Club division?
A: Once your daughter has been selected for a team, the AZU directors will place each team into a division that fits each teams abilities. Please see the AZU Parent/Player Handbook for more information.

Q: Does club volleyball interfere with school breaks and holidays?
A: Yes. And you will need to check your team commitments before planning family functions. You are committing to AZU for an entire club season, and your absence at tournaments and practices effects the team and the club.

Q: When are practices?
A: Practices are held anywhere from 6:00pm – 9:30pm, twice a week. Premier and selected Elite teams have an additional Saturday practice. Visit the Practice Locations Page for more information on practice sites. Visit the Training Schedule page for practice days, times, and locations.

Q: How many athletes are on a team?
A: Teams consist of no fewer than 10 and no more than 12 players.

Q: Do you travel to out of state tournaments?
A: Premier and Elite teams will travel out of state for 1 to 4 tournaments depending on the age and strength of the team.

Q: What do the fees cover and how much are they?
A: The fees cover USAV memberships for your daughter and coaches, insurance, background screens on coaches, coach education and certification, practice and tournament uniforms (including spandex, practice shirts, uniform shirts, full set of warm-ups, and travel bag), equipment, administrative costs, gym fees, coaching fees and travel fees for specific teams. Commitment fee is $500 and is due on AZU Try-out day. Total fees for the year vary based on age and travel vs. non-travel teams.

After the initial fee of $500 is paid, there will be 5 scheduled payments ranging from $200 - $350 for 18U, 17U, 16U, 15U, 14U, 13U.  Variations for cost depend on whether your daughter is on a travel or non travel team. Please call or email for specifics.

Q: When are payments due?
A: Payments are set by the team and when they start thier season. The AZU Player Contract will identify when your daughter’s payments are due. If payments are late, your daughter will not be allowed to participate until the balance is corrected.

Q: Where do I send my payment?
A: Once your daughter has been selected for an AZU team. You will be asked to register her on our website. The AZU Registration System will be the manner in which you pay your club dues.

Q: Who do I call in regards to my coach or the team?
A: Please view the AZU Parent/Player Handbook for more information.

Q: What age group do I try-out for?
A: Please view the 2009-2010 Age Definitions Page to see, by birthday, what age group your daughter should try-out for.

Q: Is it possible when I try-out that I will not be selected for a team?
A: Unfortunately, yes this is possible. At times we are unable to place all the players that come to try-out onto a team.

Q: Where is the AZU travel policy located?
A: It is located in the AZU Parent/Player Handbook.
